Last night, Warner Bros. announced plans for tons of new DC movies. Man of Steel 2 was confirmed alongside multiple Batman spin-offs and some other secretive projects. Clearly stemming from Black Adam's hopeful success, the DCEU may be trending in the right direction. I am getting way ahead of myself, but this is my personal DC wishlist. These are fourteen movies I want to make. The parenthesis let you know what franchises they are a part of. The DCEU (DC Extended Universe) is the main shared universe. The Batman Universe is the universe that includes The Batman as well as the upcoming Penguin TV show. And Elseworlds is just a one-off story that isn't involved with any cinematic universe. That said, here are fourteen DC movies I want to see.
*Quick note: Whenever I refer to Justice League, I mean the Snyder Cut. Josstice League isn't canon, even though there are some pictures from that film in this ranking.
14. League of Assassins (Batman Universe)
Among last night's announcements were a bunch of Batman villain spin-offs. They announced projects focusing on Scarecrow, Clayface, and Professor Pyg, which is super cool, but I really want one focusing on Ra's al Ghul and the League of Assassins. Ra's al Ghul's only live-action film appearance was in the third act of Batman Begins. I want to see the leader that he is as well as the inner workings of the League of Assassins. I think it would be super cool.
13. Gotham Knights (Elseworlds or Batman Universe)
They actually are making a CW show based on Gotham Knights, but I want a feature film. This movie would be ways away if it took place in the Batman universe, because it'd require Pattinson's Batman to be dead or MIA. That's why I think it'd work best as an Elseworlds story. A future where Batman is gone and Gotham is suffering because of it. I've always wanted the Bat-family to be more present in Hollywood, and I think a Gotham Knights story would be the perfect way to do it.
12. Green Arrow (DCEU)
This almost feels inevitable. If Black Adam succeeds and the DCEU is truly back, Green Arrow will eventually get introduced. The character gained massive popularity from the Arrowverse, so I'm sure he'll get his own feature film. I'm really interested to see what a movie Green Arrow looks like, and I think they could do some really cool things with him. Also, they could use Deathstroke as the villain. That'd be awesome.
11. The Dark Knight Returns (Elseworlds or Batman Universe)
This is another one that's most likely Elseworlds, but it'd be cool in the Batman universe. The Dark Knight Returns is probably the best and most famous DC comic ever written, and it is baffling to me that we don't have a true film adaptation of this story. Batman v. Superman takes elements of this book, but it isn't a true adaptation. Either give it an Elseworlds label and make a one-off film or wait ten-ish years for Robert Pattinson to be old and finish off the Batman universe with The Dark Knight Returns.
10. Green Lantern (DCEU)
I don't really know if this has been confirmed, but I'm gonna go ahead and say it hasn't. There was a Green Lantern Corps show announced somewhere in the mess of the DCEU, but I don't think it's moving forward. And I don't want that. I want a Green Lantern solo film that focuses on one of the Lanterns: Hal Jordan, John Stewart, Kyle Rayner, Alan Scott, etc. We need a good Green Lantern movie in the DCEU. I'm sure it'll happen.
9. Justice Society of America (DCEU)
This is another one that's almost inevitable, considering the JSA's debut in Black Adam. I think a Justice Society movie would be awesome. Get the throwback team. Have them fight Vandal Savage. Create a situation where it would make sense for the Justice League to enter a messy world where the JSA is retired. That could be awesome. Also, you introduce Jay Garrick and the Spectre so that they can be used in future installments. That'd be super cool.
8. Shazam vs. Black Adam (DCEU)
The Rock has been talking up Black Adam like it's the best thing since sliced bread. He's getting everyone hyped up for this character and wants him to fight everyone in the DCEU. He's been talking about a Superman vs. Black Adam movie for forever. I want Black Adam to fight Shazam. At the end of the day, Black Adam is Shazam's archnemesis. You need them to fight. I want Shazam 3 to be about Black Adam and Shazam. It'd be awesome.
7. Batman: Arkham Asylum (Elseworlds)
One of my personal favorite Batman comics is Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth. It's not a superhero comic. This thing is straight psychological horror. And it is perfect for a film adaptation. You can't have this be connected to any outside universe, because that won't work. You make an R-rated Batman horror film. Examine Bruce Wayne's broken psyche and have this film play like The Shining where Batman is Danny and Jack Torrance and Arkham Asylum is the Overlook Hotel. It'd be SO cool. It's NEVER going to happen. But there's a small piece of me that is holding out hope.
6. Legion of Doom (DCEU)
If DC wants to go a different route from Marvel, this would be the way to do it. Have a movie focused entirely on a group of villains. Recast Lex Luthor, because Jesse Eisenberg is terrible, and then have a serious, disturbing Legion of Doom movie. Make it rated R. Don't make this a Suicide Squad, where the villains are anti-heroes. Have them be bad people, and set them up to fight the Justice League. It'd be super cool.
5. Injustice (DCEU)
Honestly, I don't know if this is going to happen or not. If it does, however, I will be game. The Injustice storyline in the comics and video games is super cool, and I think a true live-action Injustice would be absolutely sick. They teased it in Batman v. Superman and later in Justice League, but with the future of the Snyder-verse up in the air, Injustice looks very unlikely. However, I think, with a few years of build up, they can restore the DCEU to a place where Injustice can happen.
4. Final Crisis (DCEU)
Final Crisis would be the Endgame of the DCEU. This would be the final showdown with Darkseid. He is one of my favorite DC villains, and if we got a version of him that matched the MCU's Thanos, that would be a dream come true. Final Crisis sees basically every superhero in the DC universe band together to fight Darkseid and his army as he uses the anti-life equation to take over Earth. This is another thing that the previous DC installments have somewhat been hinting towards, but it's another one that's unlikely. However, if they decide to go the Darkseid route, Final Crisis is very possible.
3. Suicide Squad vs. Justice League (DCEU)
This is one that I feel like has to happen. The Suicide Squad and the Justice League have both been in the DCEU. One is a group of villainous mercenaries. The other is a group of superheroes. How can they not pit the two teams against each other? I think this would be a great first crossover for the DCEU, and it's another one that would pull them further out of Marvel's looming shadow.
2. Doomsday Clock (DCEU)
Okay, hear me out on this one. Zack Snyder directed Watchmen and Justice League (still referring to his cut of the film). In 2017, DC published Doomsday Clock, a multiverse crossover between the Watchmen and the rest of the DC universe. It would be poetic. Bring Snyder back for a Doomsday Clock film. I would go crazy. It would be amazing. Bring this group of gritty, anti-heroic, broken heroes into the main DCEU and have them collide with the Justice League as their world starts to fall apart. Can you imagine what a Doctor Manhattan-Superman fight would look like on screen? It'd be amazing. This would be one of the coolest moves if they ever decide to make a Doomsday Clock movie.
1. Zack Snyder's Justice League 2 (DCEU)
All I really care about is a true future for the DCEU. A true future would be solidified if we get a sequel to Justice League. I'm not the biggest fan of Zack Snyder, but he clearly had a vision for the DCEU and the Justice League. If you bring him back, he can complete that vision. Maybe not in four-hour fashion, but he can do great things. Give him the reins and let him make a sequel to Justice League. Even if you don't bring him back, make a sequel to his Justice League, not the abomination that Joss Whedon created. If you want the DCEU to survive, you need to bring back the Justice League, and you need to do it soon.
